DR. WILLIAM W.L. "BILL" TAYLOR MEMORIAL SCIENCE SCHOLARSHIP COMPETITION

Scholarship Awards:
$5,000 per recipient
plus $400 travel stipend

In honor of The INSPIRE Project, Inc.'s Dr. Bill Taylor, The INSPIRE Project, Inc. with its partners at the DC Space Grant Consortium, NASA/Goddard Space Flight Center and other science and technology organizations established this science scholarship competition.

Scientifically oriented undergraduate and graduate college students and high school seniors who will be attending or are attending a DC metro area college or university are encouraged to apply.

COMPETITION OBJECTIVES
This competition seeks to encourage students to conduct individual or group research that will focus on Space Physics, Astronomy, Meteorology, Geology and other Earth Sciences. While designing projects identify how it has a connection to INSPIRE's Very Low Frequency study of natural or manmade phenomena.

Judging of research projects based on the criteria below:

• Creativity and design of the project
• Clear project goals and the methods used to accomplish those goals
• Analysis of project results and their relationship to project goals
• Clarity and quality of the project's written report
• Clarity and quality of the project's presentation (finalists only)

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

Candidates must:

• Mandatory U.S. Citizenship
• Demonstrate above-average performance in their academic work through their GPA
• Be registered for full-time study as a student in good standing in a Washington, DC area high school (seniors only), university or college
• Attend a Washington, DC area high school (seniors only), university or college for the upcoming academic year
• Submit two letters of recommendation with at least one from a teacher or faculty member.

RULES & PROCEDURES

• Materials must be received by the stated deadlines.
• Application must be filled out completely and contain a "Proposed Research Statement."
• Final research project written report cannot exceed 8 pages (double-spaced, 12 pt Times font).
• After review of all final research projects' written reports, finalists will be selected.
• Finalists will then be notified and a time scheduled to give a presentation of their work to the judges' panel.
• Each presentation must be given by the project leader or individual and cannot exceed 20 minutes. Materials used in the presentation become the property of The INSPIRE Project, Inc.
• All decisions by the judges' panel will be final.
