EDUCATOR WORKSHOP

Teaching Science with an Enthusiastic Attitude

The INSPIRE Project, Inc., a educational scientific non-profit organization, along with, The District of Columbia State Office of Career and Technical Education, Office of State Superintendent of Education (OSSE) and Gallaudet University are pleased to host Teaching Science with an Enthusiastic Attitude Educator Workshop for high school educators and administrative staff.

Purpose/Benefits of Workshop:

  • Professional Development strategies & techniques for explaining science concepts and teaching in fun motivating ways
  • Teaching strategies - Enthusiasm will impact student involvement, improved attendance, therefore, academic achievement in STEM (science, technology, engineering & math) areas
  • Professional Development and supplemental science classroom materials
  • Presentation/Overview of Space Camp for Educators program (Marshall Space Flight Center)
  • Space Camp for Educators overview and scholarship opportunities for teachers and students
  • Participants will receive will receive an INSPIRE VLF (Very Low Frequency) Radio Receiver Kit to utilize in their classrooms giving students the opportunity for a hands-on science experience
  • Subsequent field trip in collaboration with NASA/INSPIRE team members to use receivers to "listen to sounds of space and lightning".
  • Opportunity to pilot & develop science course unit plan
  • On-site and in class technical assistance and modeling of instructional approaches by Science Team from NASA and other agencies
  • Opportunity to be part of INSPIRE's DC Educators' Science Council
  • Prepare students for Postsecondary success in STEM areas
  • School Exposure and support/involvement with private industries, non-profits, and NASA agencies
